Ambassador Hu met with H. E. Sarmite Elerte
On January 5, 2011, Mr. Hu Yeshun, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Latvia met with H. E. Sarmite Elerte, the new Minister for Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
Ambassador Hu expressed his congratulations to Sarmite Elerte for taking up her new office of the Minister for Culture of Latvia, and had positive comments on the number of achievements made in the field of the bilateral cultural cooperation in the past year. Ambassador Hu also had a very high opinion of the important significance of the Culture Exchange Programme from 2011 to 2015 between the two Ministries of Culture of China and Latvia, and expressed that the cultural exchanges, being the bridges of the communications and friendship between the two peoples, form an very important part of the bilateral relations. The year of 2011 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between China and Latvia. Both sides will organize a number of activities to celebrate this event and this year will surely be a busy year for both of us, and the exchanges and cooperation in the field of culture will be richer and more colorful. And these will surely enhance our mutual understanding and friendship.
H. E. Sarmite Elerte extended to Ambassador Hu her new year's greetings, and expressed her appreciation for the development and achievement of China. She said along with the rapid development of China, the relevant information regarding China has become richer and richer, and China has been holding increasing interest for the Latvian public. The further enhancement of the bilateral cultural exchanges and cooperation forms the common aspiration of our two peoples. She wished to work together with the Chinese side to further expand the bilateral cooperation and personnel exchanges in the fields of culture and arts etc. during her tenure.
Both sides also exchanged views extensively on organizing a number of cultural exchange activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Latvia.
