H. E. Mr. Hu Yeshun and Madam Ms. Yan Liru Held National Day Reception

On September 28, 2010, H. E. Mr. Hu Yeshun, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Latvia and Ms. Yan Liru, Madam of the Ambassador held a grand reception to celebrate the 61st Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China in Riga. H. E. Mr. Artis Kampars, Minister for Economy, H. E. Mr. Ints Dālderis, Minister for Culture, H. E. Mr. Andris Teikmanis, State Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Major General Raimonds Graube, Commander of the Latvia Army, other Senior Officials from the Government Departments, Saeima, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Latvia, Representatives from the business, media, culture and education circles, Foreign Envoys accredited to Riga, Representatives from the Chinese companies and overseas Chinese compatriots etc. in Latvia, more than 200 participants attended the reception.

   

Ambassador Hu briefed the audience of the tremendous achievements regarding the social and economic developments in China. He stated that China has become an important force to safeguard the world peace and promote the global economic growth along with the steady rise of China's international position and influence. The ongoing Shanghai Expo has not only shown the world of an open, tolerant and progressive China, but has opened a window for the Chinese people to get to know more of the world also. But China is still a developing country. There exist many issues such as the unreasonable economic structure, the uneven regional development, and the further improvement of the quality of the economic growth ect. , which are unable to be solved within a short period of time. Therefore, China has to open up futher to the outside world, deepen the reforms, realize the scientific development so that to make even greater contributions to the common prosperity and development of the whole world. Ambassador Hu has a very high opinion of the comprehensive friendly relations and cooperation between China and Latvia. He expressed that the development of China has not only benefited the Chinese people, but also provided huge opportunities to the various countries of the world including Latvia. The Chinese side would like to make joint and unremitting efforts with the Latvian side to further enhance the mutual trust, expand the common understanding and deepen the cooperation.

   
Some films introducing the national pavilions of the various countries in Shanghai Expo and the Chinese cultures and traditions were shown at the reception. Books and brochures regarding the colourful Chinese cultures were also distributed at the reception.

The reception was chaired by Mr. Li Bijian, Counsellor of the Embassy. Diplomats and staff members of the Embassy attended the reception.
