2011-09-09 16:20

On September 9, 2011, Vice President Xi Jinping met with Argentine Foreign Minister Hector Timerman at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi said bilateral ties have entered a new stage of rapid development since both sides established the strategic partnership in 2004. Both sides have enjoyed close high-level exchanges, deepened mutual political trust and fruitful cooperation on economy, trade, humanities and other areas. Both sides are committed to promoting the building of a more equitable and rational international political and economic order and have maintained close coordination and cooperation on major international issues. During President Cristina's successful state visit to China last July, President Hu Jintao exchanged in-depth views and reached important consensus with her on deepening bilateral strategic partnership and major international issues of common concern, which mapped out the direction for the development of bilateral relations in the next period.

Xi said the Chinese government attaches great importance to relations with Argentina and is willing to make joint efforts with the country to implement the consensus reached by leaders of both countries and continuously develop and enrich bilateral strategic partnership.

Timerman reiterated the Argentine government's adherence to the one-China policy and firm support of China's positions on issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet. Timerman said Argentina hopes to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation with China on economy, trade, science and technology to achieve common development.
