21 October 2016, the opening ceremony of “The Silk Road Ancient Chinese Art” Exhibition was held at the Art Museum RIGA BOURSE. Representatives from the political, media and culture circles of Latvia, altogether nearly 100 guests attended the opening ceremony. Chinese Ambassador Mr. Huang Yong addressed the audience.
In his speech, Ambassador Huang pointed out that, amity between the people held the key to state-to-state relations. The year of 2016 marked the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of China-Latvia diplomatic relations. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang was scheduled to visit Latvia and attend the 5th China-CEEC Summit soon. He was confident that this exhibition was sure to play an active role for Latvian People to understand China deeply and promote culture exchange between China and Latvia.
Curator of Latvian National Museum of Art Ms. Mara Lace expressed her sincere thanks to the Ministry of Culture and Embassy of P.R. China in Latvia. She spoke highly of the exhibits on display, and felt great honored that Riga could hold the exhibition. She said that, the profound cultures covered in the exhibition was the epitome of the magnificent Chinese history, which could help to strengthen the understanding and friendship between the two countries.
With the theme of “Silk Road”, the exhibits on display contains the bronze vessels unearthed 2500 years ago, the special gold jewelry unearthed in western area of Xinjiang Autonomous Region of China, and ancient silk unearthed along the Silk Road. The exhibition will last from 21 October 2016 to the 8 January 2017.
