Remarks by Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Latvia on the Joint Statement on Lithuania's Relations with Taiwan by Chairs of Foreign Affairs Committees of European and US Parliaments
2021-08-27 00:00

We have noted the Joint Statement on Lithuania's Relations with Taiwan by Chairs of Foreign Affairs Committees of European and US Parliaments.

I want to stress that China never interferes in other countries' internal affairs, accepts no groundless accusations. There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. This is common understanding of the international community. Adherence to the One-China principle is the political foundation for China to develop bilateral relations with other countries. The Lithuanian Government, in disregard of China's repeated representations and articulation of potential consequences, has announced its decision to allow the Taiwan authorities to open a "representative office" under the name of "Taiwan". The decision brazenly violates the spirit of the communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Lithuania, severely undermines China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and seriously violates the One-China principle. To this, China has the right to and should make legitimate and reasonable responses.

Engage in "megaphone diplomacy", or to gang up to pressure China have failed in the past and will never succeed in the future. China's firm resolve to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity is unshakable. We urge relevant MPs to take a correct and objective position and stop making irresponsible remarks on China-related issues.
