Ambassador Liang Jianquan attended the Inauguration Ceremony of SANY Ship-to-shore Container Crane at Freeport of Riga, Latvia

On August 25, the Inauguration Ceremony of SANY Ship-to-shore Container Crane was held at the Baltic Container Terminal of Freeport of Riga, Latvia. More than 50 representatives from all walks of life in Latvia attended the ceremony, including Mr. Ansis Zeltins, CEO of the Freeport of Riga, Mr. Gerard Sammut, CEO of Baltic Container Terminal, Ambassador Liang Jianquan of China, Mr. Shen Xiaokai, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Latvia and Mr. Deng Haijun, Representative of Chairman of SANY Europe GmbH.

Ambassador Liang Jianquan congratulated on the inauguration of SANY Ship-to-shore Container Crane at the Baltic Container Terminal in the speech, and emphasized that SANY enjoys a high reputation for its high quality products and excellent service. It is believed that SANY ship-to-shore container crane will meet the needs of Baltic Container Terminal and provide convenience for the port service. Ambassador Liang Jianquan said that the economic and trade relations between China and Latvia have been continuously strengthened in recent years. With its superior geographical location, Latvia serves as a transit point in central and eastern Europe. China is willing to actively support CEEC-China Secretariat on Logistics Cooperation in playing the coordinating role of transit and logistics, and make Latvia a transit and logistics hub in Central and Eastern European countries.

Mr. Ansis Zeltins said on behalf of Mr. Talis Linkaits, Minister of Transport of Latvia, that SANY’s high-end container equipment significantly increased the capacity of the Baltic Container Terminal and made the terminal to be the biggest special container terminal in the Baltic States. He praised SANY’s customer centered service concept and expressed the willingness to further strengthen the cooperation with SANY in the future. He said that the Baltic Container Terminal will actively participate in the “Belt and Road” construction and work with the Chinese side to jointly promote the development of the Freeport of Riga as a transit and logistics hub in the region.

During the event, Ambassador Liang Jianquan and the guests witnessed the inauguration of the container crane.

Baltic Container Terminal is the largest container terminal in the Baltic states, handling 300, 000 TEUs a year. Since the establishment of the partnership between the Baltic Container Terminal and SANY Group in 2012, the parties have reached cooperation on container reach stackers and container cranes supply with a total value of 12 million euros. The purchase of 5.7 million euro ship-to-shore container crane from SANY Group will effectively increase the capacity of the Baltic Container Terminal and its ability to service large vessels.
